For the past decade, players who have played for the National team (the Flames) and various clubs at Super League level complained of lack of support after retiring from active football. Until 2017, most soccer clubs, including the national team did not insure players. The athletes were not even on pension schemes. This led to desperation due to lack of support whenever players fell sick or indeed, in meeting their daily needs.
